- a breeders take on speckle park -
This is what your fellow breeders experience when working with the Speckle Park breed. The hearty,
reliable performance of Speckle Park cattle is witnessed by breeders across Canada.

We raise our cattle on native grass pastures. Having efficient hearty cattle is key to our
operation. Since introducing Speckle Park genetics into our herd, we have also noticed increased
calving ease and calf vigor.

In British Columbia it makes sense to grass-finish our cattle. We see grass as our strength on
our ranch and the Speckle Park breed compliments our program perfectly. We’re really proud of
our product.

We have been utilizing Speckle Park bulls for over 15 years, and the quality of our calves just
keeps improving. Speckle Park cows are easy-keeping, docile, and hard-working, putting
everything into their calves.
They are easy calving, and the calves are up sucking within 5-10 minutes. We've enjoyed working
with this breed a great deal and have no regrets about switching our herd from the mainstream
breeds we used to run.

Our beef clients have always been honest with us, but when we sold the meat from our Speckle
Park steers, someone reached out to us to say that even though they have always had a good
experience with their beef, they wanted to know why the most recent beef purchased was extra
good. It was the Speckle Park steers that made the difference.
From the butcher shop perspective, above all else, what we love about the Speckle Park-influence
cattle is their fat distribution. Fat is dispersed between the cuts and within the cuts and they
produce less waste. In contrast, other breeds of beef cattle with comparable carcass weights of
750 to 800 pounds, consistently produce 150 pounds of excess waste product and much of their fat
is laid down along their topline.
Additionally, in our cowherd, we have experimented with several crosses, and we have found the
1,100-to-1,200-pound Speckle Park-influence cows to be most efficient, weaning comparable calf
weights on less feed, relative to heavier cows.
